Our Story

Since 2000, Josie Cawthon has strived to make her vision of serving new and expectant mothers a reality. Alongside her husband Todd, with the support of their seven wonderful children, they embarked on the adventure that is now Birth Blessings. 


Birth Blessings has been working side by side with new families. With gentle guidance, we will help you to make informed decisions throughout the many stages of pregnancy, labor, birth, and parenthood.


Birth Blessings has supported well over 5000 families. We offer professional, experienced, birth and postpartum support. Our team approach affords you the most comprehensive experience as we support you in your pregnancy, birth, and parenting journey. 


Our belief is that since we offer the most intimate services, our team members all must have the heart of a doula - the heart to serve. We are motivated by compassion, care, and love. We are proud to have a dynamic history of serving the birthing community in and around San Antonio and look forward to continuing to bless families.

Josie Cawthon

Owner, CD, PPD, CBE

Josie became a Childbirth Educator in 1999 and a Certified Doula in 2000. She has birthed and breastfed seven children of her own and has been a part of the birth team for over 1500 births! Josie prides herself on her caring heart and her desire to serve. Throughout her career as a birth professional, Josie has acquired a wealth of knowledge that she has in turn taught to her team. Ensuring that every Birth Blessings team member is backed with over 20 years of knowledge, caring doula hearts, and the utmost professionalism.

Ashley Sayers


Ashley is a San Antonio native. She is the youngest of 8 children. Being part of a large family, she started caring for her nieces and nephews at a young age. She started a nanny job after completing high school. Ashley has always loved working with families and caring for children with a special spot in her heart for babies. She has been a part of our team providing postpartum support since 2019

Lily Morang


Lily began volunteering at her church nursery alongside her mother at 11. She since has harbored a passion for helping families. Lily is a certified EMT on her path towards becoming a pediatric nurse. Lily's goal is to help her clients advocate for themselves as she supports families through challenging seasons of life.

Siobhan Wil


Siobhan is the eldest of 10 kids. For over 15 years, she has been caring for children from the ages of birth to 16 years old including children with special needs. One unique skill that she brings to our team is Siobhan is fluent in English Sign Language. In 2020, Siobhan finished her coursework to certify as a Birth Doula. While she loves working with our families as a postpartum doula, she is eager to intern as a birth doula and expand her skill set.

Sage’s passion for caring for others began by caring for her younger siblings. From an early age she was babysitting, nannying, assisting at church with the youth and soon became CPR certified and a lifeguard. Since graduating high school she has continued to care for families by working with a nonprofit that assists low income moms. Her desire is to serve and encourage families as they adjust to their new normal. She is currently pursing a degree in nursing with the aspirations of becoming a nurse-midwife.

Nina Cawthon

CD, PPD, Certifed Sleep Consultant

Nina has always loved children. At 13, she became a mother’s helper, transitioning into babysitting, eventually became a full-time nanny. After graduating, she became even more involved with birth work. She completed her certification in 2015 and has now served numerous families as a birth and postpartum doula. Nina is known for making deep and loving relationships with the families she assists. In 2019 Nina became a Certified Sleep Consultant. She is well equipped to help families create long-term sleep solutions for their newest additions.

Alexis Schafer

Intern Doula, Licensed Paramedic

Alexis has always had a heart of service. In 2010, she became a licensed Paramedic with a degree in Applied Sciences. Her interest in birth was sparked during her labor/delivery rotations in college and was fully ignited in 2016 after the birth of her daughter. Alexis had an amazing birth experience and knew that she wanted to be a part of walking others through their own birth journeys. She has a wealth of personal and emergency-based knowledge and strives to be an advocate for families.
